Women in Art Book Club: "Latoya M. Hobbs: Carving Out Time”

  • All Good Books 734 Harden Street Columbia, South Carolina, 29205 United States (map)

Join us for a book club celebrating women in art. Whether you're an art historian, a beginner, or just love art, everyone is welcome at the table.

For this second season of the club, we'll be focusing on the lives and work of individual artists. We're starting out with Ninth Street Women by Mary Gabriel. This book is long (but you'll have all summer to read it!) and covers Lee Krasner, Elaine de Kooning, Grace Hartigan, Joan Mitchell, and Helen Frankenthaler. Then we'll read Everything She Touched by Marilyn Chase, the biography of American sculptor Ruth Asawa. Finally we'll read LaToya M. Hobbs' Carving Out Time, which explores the life of the painter and printmaker.

This book club is led by Julie Hansard, a bookseller and the Creative Director for All Good Books. Julie graduated Summa cum Laude from Winthrop University in 2019, with a BA in Art and Minor in Art History and was the recipient of the Art History Travel Fund Award. When she's not at the bookstore or leafing through medieval manuscripts, you can find her painting, snuggling her cats, and reading every book she can find.
